Gluten Free with a Difference
Although the name “Corn Grits” may not appeal to many Kiwis, they are one of the cuisine cornerstones in the southern states of the US. In fact, along with Cornbread, the versatility of Corn Grits has helped transform it from a staple food into a popular dish seen on menus across the US. We’ve endeavoured to make our Gluten Free mixes genuinely tasty by carefully selecting ingredients that have worked together for many years. It is our hope that these are the best gluten free baking mixes you’ve ever tasted!
We source our whole maize (corn) from Broadlands Farm in Tolaga Bay. Broadlands employ natural growing practices and guarantee their products to be gluten, GE and residue free. We mill this corn and hand sift it into grits, cornmeal and corn flour for use in our mixes.
As a craft food business we are never far from the food we make. As such, we take all practical measures to keep our Gluten Free baking mixes gluten free. Along with strict operational procedures, we have invested in a dedicated Grainmaker 116 Mill and a separate milling/mixing/packing area for our range of Gluten Free products.
Our Gluten Free Baking Mixes:
GF Pancake and Waffle – This pancake and waffle mix is light and fluffy, we consider them to be a worthy rival to our whole wheat option. The key is to let the mix sit for at least 15 minutes to thicken up…!
GF Cornbread – Whether cooked in a cast iron skillet or as muffins, we believe this mix will become one of our most popular. It’s a very versatile dish and a great substitute for toast with your favourite soup.
GF Corn Grits – There are literally dozens of ways that you could cook “grits”, we have included a recipe for Chilli Cheese Grits in our packs. We’d love to hear about your favourite recipe, perhaps we’ll add it too our packs also.
